PLANT SALE FAQs

When is the Plant Sale? I can’t wait!

Every year, our Annual Plant Sale is held on the day before Mother’s Day at the Kitsap County Fair Grounds, in the Presidents’ Hall.  The sale normally begins at 9:00am sharp and ends at 2:00pm (or until we run out of plants). Check out the Plant Sale page.

Where does the money from the Plant Sale go?

The Kitsap Master Gardeners are volunteers who work in communities throughout Kitsap County to inform, support, and encourage everyone’s connection to nature through gardening. Every dollar you spend at the Plant Sale goes to support our work. Our four demonstration gardens serve the community as a learning space for novice gardeners, and as a resource that provides produce to food pantries throughout out the county (over 5,400 lbs. were donated in 2025). Additionally, Master Gardeners provide free educational seminars as well as clinics where you can get your gardening questions answered. Read more about our demonstration gardens.

Will there be plants suitable for a Mother’s Day gift?

Oh my, yes. There are many options available to you.  There’s something for every Mom at our Plant Sale.  Why not buy Mom some veggie starts for her garden; they’re perfectly timed for planting.  How about Dahlias or Fuchsias?  They bring so much color to the garden.  She’s bound to love them.  Whether your Mom’s garden is in full sun or dense shade, we have beautiful perennials ready to be planted and enjoyed.  Does your Mom love to read?  Our lightly used books are hand-selected by our Master Gardeners and are only $2 (what a bargain).

What’s the best strategy for successful shopping?

If you want the absolute best selection, come early but be prepared to stand in line.  Hardy Fuchsias have been a particular favorite and a hot seller over the past few years, so you’ll want to come early if interested in purchasing them. Our first customers usually show up at 7:30am for a 9:00am start.  It’s like the garden version of a rock concert!  If you want great deals, show up after noon.  Things should be much calmer by then.  Take your time and wait for the prices to drop.

I’m new to gardening and don’t want to spend too much money.  Will there be bargains?

Our Plant Sale is the perfect place for beginners.  You can find dozens of lovely plants that will get you started on your gardening adventure without breaking the bank.

Veggie starts are a perfect way to grow your own food.

Our healthy hand-picked perennials will become the backbone of your flower garden.

Remember to stop by Gambler’s Corner for super sales and, while you’re there, pick up a lightly used gardening book for only $2.00.

Finally, make sure to stop by our “questions and answer” clinic where you can pick up lots of free informational material and learn from our Master Gardeners.  We’re here to help!

Will I have to pay sales tax if I buy plants at your sale?

No.  The MGFKC is a non-profit corporation, and our Annual Plant Sale is a qualified “fundraiser.”

Are children welcome at your Plant Sale?

Absolutely.  In fact, kids have their own area where “small plants for small people” are only $1 and any child who visits the kids’ area gets a free gift and can participate in activities.  Also, the “Bee Lady” will be back again this year.  Watching the bees in their hive is a fun activity for kids and adults.

Will I be able to ask questions and get advice at the Plant Sale?

Yes, of course.  We always have a “question and answer” clinic at the sale.  Stop by and take advantage of our expertise.  Also, our Heritage Demonstration Garden is located conveniently behind the Presidents’ Hall. Stop by and see how fruits, veggies and flowers are grown.

I don’t get around too well and plants are heavy. Will you help me take the plants that I buy to my car?

Yes, we’re here to help.  While shopping, take a cart (which can be found just inside the door to the Presidents’ Hall).  Take advantage of our convenient “hold” area while you’re shopping.  When you’re all done, we’ll help you get your plants to your vehicle.

May I pay by credit card?

Yes, of course.  You may pay by credit card, debit card, personal check or cash.

How can I get information about being a vendor at your Plant Sale?

All the vendors have already been selected for the 2026 Plant Sale.  If you are interested in being a vendor at future Plant Sales, please contact us at mgfkc.vendors@gmail.com.

My yard is full of beautiful plants.  Do you need any plants for your Plant Sale?

Thank you for asking.  Our “salvage team” searches for potential sources of plants in the late summer and early fall for the following year’s Plant Sale.  Once an appropriate site is located, the team arranges a convenient time with the homeowner to take plants in the fall and early winter.  Our team would love to hear from you.  Feel free to send them an email at mgfkc.perennials@gmail.com.

May I bring my dog to the plant sale?

In compliance with County rules, we do NOT allow pets in the venue, President’s Hall. True service animals are the exception. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
